Description

This Easy Sweet Potato Casserole is the ultimate comfort food, bridging the gap between a savory vegetable side and a decadent dessert. Featuring a smooth, velvet-mashed sweet potato base seasoned with vanilla and butter, it is crowned with a crunchy, buttery pecan praline topping. Perfectly suited for busy home cooks and holiday feasts, this reliable dish delivers deep, caramel-sweet flavors and satisfying textures in a straightforward, budget-friendly recipe that feels like a professional culinary creation.

Ingredients

Scale

2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
1/3 cup brown sugar for topping
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
Boil or steam the sweet potatoes until fork-tender, then drain and mash until smooth.
In a large bowl, whisk together the mashed potatoes, eggs, 2 tablespoons softened butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and salt until well combined.
Spread the potato mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
In a small bowl, combine chopped pecans, 1/3 cup brown sugar, flour, and cold cubed butter using a fork until crumbly.
Sprinkle the pecan mixture over the top of the potato base.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until the center is set and the topping is golden and bubbly.

Notes

Ensure your potatoes are diced evenly so they cook through at the same rate. For added flavor, you can stir in a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon into the mashed potato base.
